Andrey Makarevich: I Look at Belarusians With Admiration

Belarusians demonstrate tremendous self-esteem.

Singer, poet, composer, presenter, leader of the Mashina Vremeni band, Andrey Makarevich commented on the protests in Belarus in an interview with Radio Svaboda.

- I very much sympathize with what is happening in Belarus. I look at the Belarusians with admiration. Belarusians demonstrate colossal endurance, colossal self-esteem, which we do not always have enough of, unfortunately. I very much wish them a speedy solution to this frozen situation. I really hope that it will be so. It's just incredible how in a situation where the picture could at any moment become uncontrollable because a lot of people are involved, all sorts of provocations were possible that would immediately untie Lukashenka's hands and send tanks to people... This, thank God, did not happen, and God forbid that this will happen. The fact that it is possible to maintain this peaceful degree with such a number of participants is fantastic, - said Andrey Makarevich.
