Ambassador Of Poland And Ambassador Of Lithuania Left Belarus

The Ambassador of Germany is leaving today.

Polish Ambassador Artur Michalski and Lithuanian Ambassador Andrius Pulokas left Belarus the night before. German Ambassador Manfred Huterer is leaving today - he has been recalled for consultations to Berlin. Informed sources reported this to tut.by.

The call of ambassadors to their capitals for consultations is connected with the diplomatic scandal that broke out on October 2nd when the Belarusian Foreign Ministry demanded from the embassies of Poland and Lithuania in our country to reduce the number of diplomats working in Belarus. It was also reported that the ambassadors of Belarus to Poland and Lithuania were recalled to Minsk for consultations from October 5, and suggested Warsaw and Vilnius to follow the example.

Lithuania and Poland stated that they did not intend to withdraw their ambassadors in Belarus for consultations. But on October 5, Foreign Minister of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius reported about the withdrawal of his ambassador to Belarus for consultations. Following him, this statement was made by Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau.

Rau noted in his tweet that "in coordination with the European External Action Service and EU member states, a joint decision was taken to recall for consultations some of the ambassadors accredited in Belarus". That is, they are not only ambassadors of Poland and Lithuania, but also of other EU countries.

The EU Mission in Minsk has not yet commented on the situation.
