Lithuania May Introduce National Sanctions Against Belaruskali

The draft is submitted by Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skuodis.

Marius Skuodis, Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania, said he wanted to submit a draft to the government, which would introduce Lithuanian national sanctions against Belaruskali transit.

"I'm submitting to the government a draft on the introduction of sanctions at the national level, which will be submitted to all members of the Government today. I hope that together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is responsible for sanctions policy, we will make the best decision and stop the transportation of fertilizers through Lithuania," Skuodis said.

Earlier, Skuodis said that payments, made by "Belaruskali" in November for delivery of fertilizers through Lithuania in December, were "not typical" in the light of the U.S. sanctions.

Yesterday, Marius Skuodis and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said they were ready to resign over the transportation of Belaruskali sanctioned products by Lithuanian Railways.
