In business circles, they confidently say that the ex-prime minister has been detained, but his wife denies this information.

It was rumored that former Prime Minister Siarhei Rumas had returned to Minsk and was under house arrest.

Talks that the ex-prime minister might be arrested first appeared after Ihar Charniauski, co-owner of the Turau Dairy Plant, a member of the Council for the Development of Entrepreneurship, and later some bankers, had problems with law enforcement in early February. Analysts saw this as a hidden hunt for the former prime minister, who not only worked but was friends with some of the detainees. However, then the news of the arrest of Rumas turned out to be fake. It turned out that the former prime minister was in Europe. He went abroad not only to visit the children but also on business. After his resignation, Rumas did not hide the fact that he would like to return to business. He was on business in Kazakhstan, then in London.

In an interview with tut.by not so long ago, Rumas very briefly commented on possible claims against him from the security forces: “I would not like to think so. I really know them all well enough as professionals and decent people."

Now a new wave of information about Siarhei Rumas has suddenly spread. In business circles, they say very confidently that the former Prime Minister allegedly returned to Minsk not so long ago and was almost immediately placed under house arrest.

Narodnaya Volya contacted the wife of Siarhei Mikalaevich and asked her to confirm or deny the information that is circulating, let's say, in the circles of some businessmen.

“No, it’s not true,” Zhana Leanidauna said. “My husband was not detained and did not return.”

Who benefits from keeping the family of Siarhei Rumas in suspense? Why is there talk about his possible detention too often lately? Does law enforcement really have questions for the former prime minister, or is this an attempt to rein in former high-ranking officials who might be willing to support political change?

It is worth noting that after his resignation, Siarhei Rumas did not speak out about politics, did not say anything about the results of the presidential elections and violence, did not expand on the true reasons for his resignation. All his statements both when he was prime minister and after leaving office were cautious.
