United Nations Сreates New Mechanism For Belarus: Everything Must End Up With Tribunal

To all the Belarusian judges, prosecutors, policemen and officials!

The UN has launched a new mechanism for documenting human rights violations in Belarus. UN Special Rapporteur on Belarus Anaïs Marin told about it in the Euroradio webcast.

- This mechanism is a "fact-finding mission". Such missions are created, for example, after the cases of genocide. The idea is the following: the people in Geneva, who will work as part of this mission, will collect the facts that will be given to them by groups and initiatives of the Belarusian human rights defenders, involved in registering the facts of torture.

Together with the creation of the commission three independent experts were appointed, including the Russian human rights activist Karina Moskalenko. In June-July Anais Marin plans to meet with them in order to decide how and to whom directly the collected evidence will be transferred.

- This procedure [for collecting evidence] may take several years, but it is a signal that the perpetrators of such beatings, rapes and torture will be punished. And the impunity which still reigns in Belarus won't last forever. It will be impossible for them, the perpetrators, to evade responsibility at the international level, - Anais summarizes.
