The incident will be considered at the meeting of the US President with the head of the Kremlin.
American lawmakers these days are actively commenting on the incident with the Ryanair passenger plane and what political intrigues of the international level may be behind it. A Republican congressman, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael McCaul, who gave an interview to Voice of America, offered his version of what happened.
"I would qualify what happened to the Ryanair airliner as a hijacking carried out at the state level by dictator Lukashenka, whom we do not officially recognize," Michael McCall shared his opinion. "The journalist on board (Raman Pratasevich - Voice of America) was a dissident who opposed Lukashenka's legitimacy and, therefore, was a threat to him. That's why they took him into custody and charged him. From a moral point of view, this is outrageous."
Michael McCall also noted that the Lukashenka regime has secured the support of the Kremlin, whose role in the story remains to be seen.
"When President Biden meets with Putin at the summit, I am sure that one of the topics of discussion will be Putin's support for Lukashenka," the Republican congressman said.
