Ukraine Intends To Ban Import Of Milk From Belarus

Ukrainian dairy companies are taking the initiative.

Ukrainian dairy companies intend to initiate a ban on the import of milk and dairy products from Belarus, which in 2016 imposed an embargo on the import of dairy products from Ukraine.

This was announced at a press conference by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine Vadym Chaharovski, writes unian.net.

"We are preparing a statement on protection against Belarusian dairy products. In 2015, Belarus supported the Russian embargo on Ukrainian dairy products. And since January 1, 2016, not a single kilogram of dairy products from Ukraine has been delivered to the customs territory of Belarus. At the same time, Belarus opened 14 dairy enterprises for export to Ukraine," Vadym Chaharovski said.

He noted that representatives of the dairy industry consider it necessary to take measures to protect the Ukrainian market from hostile and discriminatory actions of other states.

Chagarovsky also added that the Ministry of Economy refused to conduct an anti-dumping investigation into the massive import of milk to Ukraine.

"In February, 14 dairy companies filed an application for a special investigation regarding protection from growing imports. Unfortunately, the Ministry of Economy denied us an investigation. We are preparing a second application, which we will submit in the near future," he said.
