Who Will Be Hit by the Most Powerful Us Sanctions: A Complete List

Restrictive measures against the Lukashenka regime have been applied so widely for the first time.

US President Joe Biden has approved the introduction of new sanctions against the Lukashenka regime, according to the White House website. The new sanctions are aimed at "blocking the property of additional persons contributing to the situation in Belarus."

The reason for the new sanctions is the falsification of presidential elections in Belarus on August 9, 2020, and their consequences - the elimination of political opposition and civil society organizations, as well as violations of the regime and a threat to international civilian air traffic, as it is "an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States."

Biden's decree created a legal mechanism for:

blocking all state or state-controlled assets that the United States or any of its citizens can "reach";

blocking the personal assets of persons involved in the repression;

blocking the assets of those who will provide assistance to the repressive authorities;

blocking in sectors - defense, energy, potash, tobacco, construction or transport;

The sanctions apply to the widest possible range of persons:

members of the government,

heads of state and state-controlled organizations,

persons involved in violations of human rights and freedoms, including freedom of speech, assembly, association and movement, access to the press,

persons whose actions or policies threaten the security or territorial integrity of Belarus,

persons involved in electoral fraud,

persons involved in the financial, material, and technological support of the above actions,

persons helping to circumvent sanctions.

The blocking does not apply to already signed contracts.

The mechanism for imposing sanctions is as follows: the list of persons is determined by the Treasury (Ministry of Finance) in agreement with the Secretary of State (Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

From now on, the United States will freeze all dollar-denominated assets of Belarusian state institutions, as well as all assets of Belarusian state-owned companies that are under American jurisdiction or are available to the American control system (foreign currency assets in US dollars).
