Vilnius is ready for all sorts of provocations and misinformation.
Lithuanian Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė at a press conference on Friday presented new information on the situation with migrants in the country, delfi.lt reports.
"The situation has stabilized, but we cannot relax, we must be prepared for different scenarios. The decision taken on August 2 bore fruit. This week, about 200 migrants were not allowed into Lithuania over humanitarian reasons," the minister said.
On Thursday, it was reported about the first Iraqi who voluntarily returned to his homeland, having received assistance offered by Lithuania in the amount of 300 euros. Another 14 people want to return home.
"The process has begun, this is just the beginning. We will maintain the pace of the return of illegal immigrants to their homeland," Bilotaitė said.
She noticed that illegal immigrants are now going to Latvia and Poland. Since August 2, 320 people have been detained in Latvia, and 515 in Poland. "Therefore, it is important for us to coordinate actions," Agnė Bilotaitė said.
"We were the icebreaker in this situation, now experts are going to the neighbors, advising them," she continued.
"After the riots at the Rudninkai training ground, we increased security, turned to the Military Police, the Prison Department for help, and they helped us," the minister assured that there will be as much capacity as needed.
"The events and tendencies of recent days set up an optimistic mood. We can say that the situation on the border with Belarus is under control," said Rustam Lyubaev, general, head of the Forces for the Protection of the State Border.
Agnė Bilotaitė commented on the violation of the border by the Belarusian border guard.
"What did he want? When there is a hybrid war, such attacks, everything is possible. Apparently, this is a provocation, an attempt to provoke some kind of reaction. According to my information, the Foreign Ministry is preparing a note, I think they can give a more detailed commentary. We are ready for all provocations and disinformation," she said.
