Putin Redeploying Troops To Moscow Fearing Coup

All military units along the perimeter of the capital have been put on high alert.

Numerous arrests, detentions and blockades have taken place in Moscow, according to the newspaper.

An elite unit of the Russian armed forces has been deployed to strengthen security in Moscow because President Vladimir Putin fears he will be overthrown by a coup.

This was reported by the British tabloid The Sun, citing Ukrainian intelligence sources.

"Kyiv intelligence officials have informed that the Putin elite ODON unit of the Russian National Guard has begun raids and arrests of other soldiers," the report said.

There were no such reports in Russian media, as the Kyiv security services said that "all military units along Moscow's perimeter have been put on high alert".

The ODON forces - officially referred to as the Separate Operational Division - are the internal security unit of the Rosgvardia.

The Special Rapid Response Group has about 18,000 men and is headed by Major-General Nikolay Kuznetsov.

The Ukrainian intelligence stated that the ODON forces were deployed in Moscow and "there have been numerous arrests, detentions and blockades".
