Mobile Operators, Owners Of Internet Resources Obliged To Spy On Users In Belarus

The decree has been published today.

Belarusian providers and mobile operators are obliged to use a special information system in cooperation with law enforcement authorities. This is required by the decree № 368, published on the National Legal Portal on October 21.

Decree No. 368 approved the regulation "On the procedure of interaction of telecommunications operators, telecommunications service providers and owners of Internet resources with the authorities, carrying out investigative activities".

Now the above mentioned organizations and persons are obliged to use information system of electronic interaction between telecommunication service providers, owners of Internet resources and bodies carrying out operative-search activity.

This requirement shall come into force six months after the official publication of the decree.

It also allows providers, mobile operators and website owners to interact with law enforcement agencies through other channels.

The document was adopted "in order to improve the forms and methods of preventing, detecting, suppressing and investigating crimes and to improve the quality of operational and investigative activities".
