AFU Colonel: It Was Multilevel Attack On Russian Fleet In Sevastopol

The loss of warships, especially the flagship Admiral Makarov, is very painful for the Russians.

Several vessels were damaged As a result of blasts in Sevastopol on the morning of October 29. In particular, the blasts on the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation, the frigate Admiral Makarov. It is unlikely that this could have been a provocation by Russia itself.

Military expert, reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and flight instructor Roman Svitan spoke about it with Channel 24. He noted that the loss of at least one warship hits the Black Sea Fleet hard.

Details of the operation in Sevastopol

Svitan noted that the attack that was carried out in Sevastopol was very well worked out and planned by the people who carried it out. It was a multi-level operation most likely.

According to him, there was an air component, that is, UAVs or HARM-type missiles, because radars were destroyed, in particular, vessels' radar systems. There was also a surface attack. We are talking about USVs such as combat airboats.

The military expert does not exclude that there were also underwater drones since damage to the so-called stop net was announced.

“It could be a three-level or four-level attack - underwater, surface, air and missile at the same time, or two or three of the mentioned,” Svitan emphasized.

He noted that attacks of this level are planned and prepared for a long time. So far, no one has declared involvement in its accomplishment. This attack was about the same as when a few months ago they hit the Saki airfield in Crimea with missiles.

This is a reason for Russia to quit the grain deal

Svitan stressed that the attack was successful as several vessels were at least damaged. One of them is the flagship, which is the carrier of 8 Kalibr missiles and was the launch pad for missiles that have been destroying Ukrainian infrastructure and killing people for several months.

In his opinion, this attack was one of the reasons for the Russians to quit the grain deal. That is, they were waiting for some reason to do it because Putin needs to quit the deal by the 15th of November. The head of the Kremlin wants to be persuaded to continue his participation in this deal.

“That is, he needs at least some trump card, at least some subject of conversation at the G20 and in general so that someone can at least talk to him,” Svitan explained.

According to him, in the near future, they themselves would have made an explosion, for example, they would have blown up their own vessel, even without this attack, later they would have announced that they are quitting the grain deal.

Possibility of provocation by Russia

Svitan noted that this operation is too large-scale for self-attack and provocation. No one would have carried out an operation of this level on the part of the Russians, as well as an operation to destroy the Crimean bridge.

“It could not be a Russian provocation in order to coincide with the quit from the grain deal. They would have found something else,” said the reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In his opinion, this could not be an operation of the Russian special services, since it leads to very large losses for the Russian army, at least in logistics.

He stressed that the loss of warships, especially after the sinking of the Moskva cruiser, is very painful for the Russians. After all, not a single vessel can enter the Black Sea, because Turkey is now preventing this. Therefore, the number of warships in the fleet located in the Black Sea is currently limited and the loss of at least one warship hits the Black Sea Fleet hard.
