Putin's confidant was hinted at in his 2018 article.
On the morning of Saturday, October 8, a powerful blast thundered on the Crimean Bridge, and a military observer at the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper, retired colonel Viktor Barants, was invited to comment on the situation unpleasant for the Russian Federation.
A native of the Kharkiv region, a confidant of Vladimir Putin, Viktor Baranets appeared on the air of the Popular Politics opposition YouTube channel.
Hosts Ivan Zhdanov and Ruslan Shaveddinov chuckled as they asked the Kremlin military expert “Have the Crimean Bridge been protected?”, alluding to his 2018 article “How Russia Will Defend the Crimean Bridge”.

“They missed the car with TNT because of their own slovenliness,” the expert replied sadly, adding that, unlike the interviewers, he was not happy about this.
“It is quite possible that there was a traitor in the team that loaded this truck, who bribed a non-pro-Russian examiner with a “loaf of green money”, then they let the vehicle on the bridge," Mr Baranets put forward his version. "Russia is now teeming with traitors like a watchdog with fleas," he added.
The presenters, without ceasing to smirk, noticed that Viktor Baranets was in fact a traitor himself since he was born in the Kharkiv region and graduated from the Journalism Department of the Lviv Higher Military-Political School. They tried to ask about the missile attacks on Kharkiv.
The “Renegade”, in turn, tried to justify himself for the previous accusation, but the host harshly besieged the retired officer: "I'm asking the questions here."
“F**k you guys! Traitors,” Mr Baranets pushed all those words away and went off the air.
