19-Year-Old Political Prisoner’s Appeal Dismissed, Leaving Huge Prison Term Unchanged

Soon Illia Verameyeu will be transferred to a colony.

On February 24, Illia Verameyeu from Homel started a Telegram correspondence with his sister Yana at about five in the morning. The reason is the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine and the shelling of the city of Mykolaiv, where his sister lived at that time. Illia was very worried about her, Viasna reports.

Three days later, the guy was detained after his calls in the local chat to resist and start acting against the war — at the gathering place with the Homel residents, the security officials were waiting for him.

Illia was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison.

On November 22, the political prisoner's appeal was dismissed, and the verdict remained unchanged. Soon he will be transferred to the colony.
