Russia lost the war already today.

The aggressor country Russia has already lost the war against Ukraine, but it does not want to admit this. The United States could have finally ended the war if it had taken three important steps.

The former commander-in-chief of NATO forces in Europe, James L. Jones, told Voice of America in an interview. He notes that the West is already aware of the approach of the inevitable loss of the Russian Federation in the war.

“It [Russia - Ed.] was forced to retreat, although it does not recognize this, but the NATO and in the United States military communities understand it. I think a lot of people were probably surprised by its failures,” Jones notes.

The general expressed hope that the war in Ukraine would end in 2023. However, he noted that it could be delayed.

Jones expressed the opinion that if the Russian Federation is ready to negotiate a settlement that would be acceptable to the Ukrainian people, then it is necessary to achieve obligations from Moscow not to break into other countries.

According to him, the most important thing that the United States should do to help Ukraine is to provide assistance to the Ukrainian army to fight against the Russian occupiers and to join in the restoration of the damaged infrastructure of Ukraine.

He named three steps that the United States could hasten the end of the war.

“When this conflict ends, however it ends, we must have a plan that can help Ukraine quickly restore its potential. There are three things that I think are extremely important: the rapid delivery of aid, the provision of humanitarian assistance, and a long-term plan for the reconstruction of Ukraine. As soon as all this is realized, this battle will be over,” the general notes.

James Logan Jones Jr. is a retired full (four-star) general in the United States Marine Corps.

During his military career, he served as Commander, United States European Command (COMUSEUCOM) and Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) from 2003 to 2006 and as the 32nd Commandant of the Marine Corps from July 1999 to January 2003. Jones retired from the Marine Corps on February 1, 2007, after 40 years of service. After retiring from the Marine Corps, Jones remained involved in national security and foreign policy issues.
