Baltic States To Discuss Additional Sanctions Against Lukashenka Regime

It was announced by the Prime Minister of Estonia.

Baltic prime ministers will discuss on Friday additional sanctions against Belarus. This was stated by Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas on February 3, reports postimees.ee. She is going to initiate the consideration of this issue.

On Thursday the Estonian government announced that it was imposing state sanctions against mineral oil from Belarus, which had code 2707 and were not covered by the pan-European sanctions of June 2021. Recently a political scandal erupted in Estonia as it was revealed that in 2021 the transit of Belarusian oil products through Estonian territory tripled compared to 2020. Tallinn reacted promptly. Kallas said Estonia's actions determine "the effectiveness of sanctions against the Lukashenka regime" as well as the international credibility of the country.

"We are also drawing attention to this gap at the international level - Estonia is proposing to impose sanctions on this group of goods throughout the European Union," the Estonian prime minister said. The discussion of the Baltic prime ministers will be an attempt to work out a common position on the issue.
