Australia Imposes 35% Duties on All Imports from Russia and Belarus

The country had previously frozen the assets of high-ranking Russian corrupt officials.

Australia will impose a 35% tariff on all imports from Russia and Belarus as economic sanctions intensify in response to Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

RBC-Ukraine reports it, citing the press service of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs.

The federal government has already imposed extensive sanctions on more than 500 Russian individuals and entities and banned imports of Russian oil.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison says Australia intends to punish Russia for its actions and again urges Moscow to stop its "unprovoked, unjust and illegal" invasion of Ukraine.

The latest round of sanctions will take effect on 25 April, the same day a ban on imports of Russian oil and other energy products will begin.

The tariffs will complement the regular general rates of duties on imports.

We shall remind you that Australia earlier froze the assets of high-ranking Russian corrupt officials.
