Lukashenka Signs Secret Decree On Potash Exports

What is the dictator up to?

On March 3, 2022 Aliaksandr Lukashenka signed a decree "On export".

The document has been published on the National Legal Internet Portal today and will come into force by parts. One of the paragraphs of the decree applies to the relations arising from December 3, 2021.

It is difficult to understand what it is all about. Two paragraphs are for official use and are not published.

The third paragraph says that JSC "Belarusian Potash Company" receives the right to use the word "Belarusian" in its name (in details of documents or promotional materials) and to have a seal, stamps and letterheads with the image of the State Emblem of the Republic of Belarus.

The decree also cancels 14 previous decrees, which in one way or another regulated the export of potash fertilizers.

The government is instructed to take measures to implement the decree.

We remind you that on 2 December, U.S. Treasury Department put "Belarusian Potash Company" and its subsidiary "Agrorozkvit" LLC on the sanctions list. The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) license for transactions with these companies, in which Belaruskali has a proprietary interest, is valid until April 1, 2022.
