More than 90% of the city's infrastructure has been destroyed by Russian war criminals.
Mariupol mayor Vadim Boychenko said during a roundtable discussion on the political and legal consequences of Russian crimes against Ukraine that almost 50 people had been burned alive in a hospital in the city.
He also said that Mariupol, which had recently been a symbol of development, is now almost completely destroyed by the Russian occupiers.
More than 90% of the city's infrastructure has been destroyed. Of this, at least 40% can no longer be rebuilt.
"According to preliminary estimates in Mariupol alone, 5,000 people died during the month-long blockade, of whom approximately 210 were children. Russian terrorist troops dropped several heavy-duty bombs on a children's hospital and destroyed one of the buildings of city hospital No. 1. About 50 people were burnt alive. The Drama Theatre, where by that time more than 900 people were hiding from shelling, was bombed. These are just a few examples of purposeful destruction of civilians in Mariupol," said the city's mayor.
Vadym Boychenko also called on EU countries to strengthen sanctions against Russia, in particular to impose a total embargo on Russian oil and gas in order to stop the genocide of Ukrainians.
