Belarusian Schools Introduce "Novelties" In History Studies

Questions about the war will be on every examination ticket.

While studying the history of Belarus, schools will place even more emphasis on the period of the Great Patriotic War. Questions about the war will be included on every examination ticket, and pupils will have to take a special additional course to prepare for them.

This was revealed on Monday by Deputy Education Minister Aliaksandr Kadlubai in a broadcast of a propaganda programme on STV, zerkalo.io reports.

- We have a very good course, developed in 2004, "The Great Patriotic War of the Soviet people in the context of World War II," it is very detailed and, unfortunately, once we gave it up, - said the official. - We are now returning to it as an elective, but an elective is something you choose or do not choose. So, to prepare for exams, we will recommend pupils to choose this course, because when doing the exam ticket and preparing it, there will definitely be a question - we are working on it - about the Great Patriotic War.

So we have 20 tickets - the second question is the Great Patriotic War. In order to prepare pupils and teachers, this course will be chosen by all pupils in the ninth grade, - the Deputy Minister added.

One of the hosts asked if such a big emphasis on the World War II against the background of the rest of the country's history would not be disproportionate. The studio's guests - political scientist Mikalai Shchokin, Deputy Interior Minister and others - replied that the entire Belarusian history is worth being proud of, but more attention should be paid to the World War II subject as "the time has changed" and "it is necessary to raise patriots".

We remind you that starting from the next academic year, students will take an exam in the history of Belarus not after the 11th, but after the 9th grade.
