Three major Russian state broadcasters will also be banned from accessing the European broadcasting system.
The sixth package of EU sanctions will include cutting off Russia's Sberbank from SWIFT. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has said that the abstention from Russian oil will be phased in.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement by Ursula von der Leyen in the European Parliament.
"Today we are presenting the sixth package of sanctions... We are disconnecting Sberbank - certainly Russia's largest bank - and two other major banks from SWIFT," she said.
The European Commission intends to impose a ban on Russian oil, she said.
"Let's face it: it's not going to be easy. But we just have to work on it. We will take care about phasing out Russian oil," she added.
The EU has also prepared a list of high-ranking military and other perpetrators of war crimes in Bucha. "We know who you are. And you will be brought to justice," Ursula von der Leyen said.
"We are banning access to our airwaves to three major Russian state broadcasters who are aggressively spreading Putin's lies and propaganda," the European Commission chief said.
It was earlier reported that the European Union was working on new sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, which would target Moscow's oil industry.
According to WSJ, the EU plans to abandon Russian oil in the next six months. Hungary and Slovakia may get more time to refuse imports of Russian natural gas because of the complicated diversification process, namely 20 months.
