Britain Imposes New Sanctions on Lukashenka's Regime and Russia

Dictators will lose around £1.7bn.

Britain has announced a new package of sanctions against Russia and Belarus worth £1.7bn, which concerns trade, the Ukrainska Pravda news agency reports.

The British government says this package of sanctions "aims to further weaken Putin's war machine."

"It will result in the total value of goods that have been subject to full or partial import and export sanctions since Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine began, exceeding £4 billion," the government says in a statement.

It is indicated that the duty will be increased by 35 per cent.

The new import duties will cover £1.4bn worth of goods, including platinum and palladium, "to prevent Putin from financing his military efforts".

This is due to the fact that Russia is one of the leading platinum and palladium producing countries whose exports are dependent on the UK.

The country will also ban exports to Russia of certain chemicals, plastics, rubber and machinery worth a total of £250m.
