Lukashists Want to Abolish Independent Trade Unions

The regime is seeking sanctions from the ILO.

Prosecutor General Shved sent an application to the Supreme Court to terminate the activities of a number of trade unions.

This applies to the Free Trade Union of Belarus, the Free Trade Union of Metal Workers, the Belarusian Independent Trade Union of Miners, Chemists, Refiners, Energy, Transport, Construction and other Workers, the Belarusian Trade Union of Radioelectronics Industry, the Association of Trade Unions "Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions," reports Nasha Niva.

The Office argues the activities of independent trade unions were politicized and their leaders were engaged in "destructive activities". Criminal cases were opened on all the cases.

On April 19th, the offices of the unions and the apartments of their activists were searched. Fifteen people were detained, including Aliaksandr Bukhvostau, Vital Chychmarau, Aliaksandr Yaroshuk, Iryna But-Husaim, Ihar Lednik, Vatslau Oreshko and others.
