A retired SVR major general has shot himself in Moscow, 112 reports.
The body of 90-year-old Lev Sotskov was found by his wife in a flat of an apartment building on Novatorov Street.
The former intelligence officer had killed himself with his award pistol.
"Lev left a suicide note: "The gun is a relic of the battles on the Khalkhin-Gol River.
I received it when I was a representative of Mongolian secret service on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Ulan-Bator. 1989 L. Sotskov".
Currently, forensic specialists are working at the scene of the accident," said the report.
Sotskov graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
Having become an officer of foreign intelligence service, he worked for many years abroad, holding senior positions in foreign intelligence agencies and divisions of the Central Intelligence Service.
In recent years, he has studied archival materials on the history of intelligence; he is the author of several books on its activities.
