American experts have assessed the situation on the fronts.
It is the 125th day of the war with the Russian occupiers, they are still trying to block the AFU in Lysychansk and are slowly retreating in Kherson region. The Russian army is suffering huge losses and the authorities are trying to reinforce the troops without announcing general mobilization.
The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports on this.
"An unnamed senior US defence official said on 27 June that Russian forces are probably running out of top military commanders and are relying more on retired officers and reserves to replace officer losses," analysts said.
Key findings:
Russian forces targeted a shopping mall in Kremenchuk as part of a recent escalation of strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure and towns.
Russian forces gradually advanced southwest of Lysychansk near the T1302 Bakhmut-Lysychansk highway, but did not completely cut off Ukrainian lines of communication to Bakhmut.
During the offensive east of Bakhmut, the Russians achieved a measured advance.
Ukrainian forces repulsed a Russian offensive north of Sloviansk.
Russian forces made limited and localized attacks along the front lines around the city of Kharkiv, but did not advance on June 27.
Ukrainian counter-attacks along the southern axis continue to force Russian forces to prioritise defensive operations on the line of contact.
Russian occupation authorities are taking measures to increase economic control over the occupied territories and force the civilian population of Ukraine to switch to the ruble.
Russian forces advanced southwest of Lysychansk on June 27, but have yet to completely cut off Ukrainian ground lines of communication (GLOC) to the town. Ukraine's General Staff reported that Russian forces had made a partially successful advance west of Vovchoyarivka towards T1302 Lysychansk-Bakhmut (only 5km south of Lysychansk), but were unlikely to reach T1302 in the area as of June 27 due to Ukrainian resistance in Verkhnokamyanka.
The occupiers conducted unsuccessful assaults on settlements northwest and southeast of Kharkiv. They shelled Pitomnik and Dementivka along the E105 Kharkiv-Belgorod highway. Ukrainian forces repulsed Russian attacks against Dovhalivka and Zaliman, some 90km southeast of Kharkiv towards Izyum.
The Russians also continued remote mining, shelling and radio reconnaissance in settlements around Kharkiv. They are probably trying to disrupt Ukrainian counterattacks.
The Russians continue to defend themselves to the south, where they are under pressure from Ukrainian counterattacks along the Kherson-Mykolaiv border.
