Zmitser Dashkevich Sentenced To Year And Half In Prison

His wife, who gave birth a month ago, was given three years of 'probation'.

According to the Viasna Human Rights Center, the Moscow District Court in Minsk rendered a guilty verdict against Zmitser and Nastia Dashkevich on July 14.

Zmitser Dashkevich was sentenced to a year and a half in prison, his wife Nastшa to three years of 'probation'.

The prosecutor asked for a year and a half in prison for each of the spouses.

The trial in the Dashkevich case began on July 11, with Judge Tatsiana Pirozhnikava presiding over the trial.

Zmitser and Nastia were accused under Article 342 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (Group activities that grossly violate public order). According to investigators, they took part in a protest action on August 23, 2020, in Minsk. Both refused to give evidence and admitted only that they were present at the march that day.
