Khakassia's Riot Police Rebel Against War In Ukraine

Russian riot policemen refuse to go to the front.

At least nine riot policemen sued the Supreme Court of Khakassia for reinstatement after their dismissal for refusing to fight in Ukraine. The head of the Russian human rights group Agora, Pavel Chikov, said this to lawyer Vladimir Vasin.

The cases are being considered behind closed doors because they contain state secrets.

Earlier in April, Mikhail Afanasyev, a journalist for the Khakassian newspaper Novyi Fokus, published an article about eleven riot policemen from the Khakassia Republic, who refused to take part in military actions in Ukraine and returned to their place of permanent deployment.

For his publication about the conditions of service and the reasons for the riot policemen's return, a criminal case was opened against Afanasyev for spreading fakes about the Russian army (part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). He was taken into custody.
