Russian Tankers Surrender To Armed Forces Of Ukraine For Two Sandwiches

The Defender of Ukraine spoke about an unusual “deal” with the invaders.

41-year-old defender of Ukraine Tatul Ohanyan told how Russian tankers surrendered for food. The Armenian has been helping Ukrainian soldiers in the east since 2014, and in the first days of the large-scale invasion, he joined the Armed Forces and defended his native Nizhyn region from the invaders.

The warrior told his story to Suspіlne. According to him, at the end of February 2022, an enemy convoy passed near the village of Bezuhivka.

One of the tanks ran out of fuel. The commanders left the tankers to the mercy of fate.

“They (the invaders — edit.) agreed to surrender on one condition: we do not torture them, and we feed them. When I asked: “What do you want?”, they said: “We haven’t eaten anything for two days, if possible, if we could have at least two sandwiches for the three of us,” Tatul said.

Later, the captured tankers helped the defenders of the Chernihiv region to use their tank.

“They agreed to help us, but on the condition that they would not shoot at their own people. No problem, you don’t want to shoot — don’t do it, just show us how to shoot, aim at the target, we will shoot ourselves, to which they agreed. And so we used this tank, ” the military man recalled.

Subsequently, the Russian tankers were exchanged for Ukrainian prisoners of war.

As for Tatul himself, he was blown up on a Russian anti-tank mine on March 12, and lost both legs. The defender was awarded the III Degree Order “For Courage”.
