Record Number Of Illegal Migrants Were Detained At Lithuanian-Belarusian Border This Year

Over the past 24 hours, a record number of migrants have been recorded on the border of Lithuania with Belarus, trying to illegally cross the state border and enter Lithuania - 135 people. Delfi reported about it with a reference to the State Border Guard Service Service of Lithuania.

There were no violations at the Latvian-Belarusian border. The Polish Border Service reports 38 attempts of illegally crossing the border, a citizen of Latvia was detained, transporting 10 migrants.

Since the beginning of this year, Lithuanian border guards have stopped 7,317 migrants. Since August 3, 2021, when the border guards of the EU countries received the right not to allow migrants from the territory of Belarus, to date, Poland has stopped 44,579 people, Lithuania - more than 15,000, Latvia - 7257, the Lithuanian Border Guard Service reports.

This summer, Poland and Lithuania completed the construction of a physical barrier on the border with Belarus. Latvia plans to build a fence along the border with Belarus by 2024.
