German Company Starts Production Of RCH-155 SPH For Ukraine

The Krauss-Maffei Wegmann is involved in the production of these self-propelled howitzers.

The German engineering company has started production of the RCH-155 self-propelled howitzers for Ukraine.

Nicholas Drummond, the adviser at the Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co., announced it, according to mil.in.ua.

“Sometimes combining two proven solutions into a new concept can be revolutionary while avoiding significant risk. Production of the Boxer RCH-155 for Ukraine has begun,” Drummond wrote.

In December, the German government officially confirmed that they are making 18 units of the latest RCH-155 self-propelled guns for Ukraine.

Minister of Defence of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov sent the request to Germany in July 2022.

The German company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann produces these self-propelled 155 mm guns.

The Remote Controlled Howitzer 155 is an artillery 155-mm system with 52 caliber barrel length.

The RCH-155 was created on the chassis of the GTK Boxer wheeled armored personnel carrier with an 8×8 wheel formula.

The system has an automated AGM turret artillery module with the artillery unit of the German PzH-2000 self-propelled howitzer.

“You can fire your maximum charge at a 90-degree angle. You can even do it on slopes up to 10 degrees,” said Nicholas Drummond.

The crew is not located in the AGM combat module and only two people can operate the RCH-155. The ammunition module AGM has 30 projectiles. The manufacturer claims that the firing range is 40 km and 52 km with V-LAP projectiles. The self-propelled guns are also capable of using long-range VULCANO and EXCALIBUR projectiles.

The total combat weight of the vehicle is 39 tons, the weight of the AGM module is 12.5 tons. The vehicle has an MTU diesel engine and an 815-litre tank.
