And called to punish the "glamorisation of the Russian army".
A controversy over the appearance of soldiers is brewing in Russia. Sergei Gerasimov, the new commander of Russia's occupation army, has demanded that the Russian military shave off beards, shave constantly and wear uniforms according to regulations. He was supported by members of the State Duma, Generals Viktor Sobolev and Viktor Zavarzin.
The head of the Wagner PMC, Evgeny Prigozhin, lashed out at the Russian generals with criticism.
"A bunch of clowns is trying to tell the soldiers, worn out by hard military work, how many times they have to shave and using what perfume to meet their superiors. I think, it is necessary to adopt a legal restriction and severe punishment with imprisonment up to 50 years for glamorization of the army," Prigozhin said.
The Charter97.org website quoted military analyst and Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officer Yigal Levin as saying why Gerasimov started introducing new procedures in the Russian army.
