The package will include unprecedented restrictions.
The European Union proposes to introduce a new package of sanctions against the regime in Belarus. Restrictions may be as strong as those currently imposed on Russia.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
According to documents reviewed by the publication, the EU has proposed a new package of wide-ranging sanctions against Belarus for its role in supporting Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
"The proposed measures would bring Minsk into compliance with many of the sanctions packages previously imposed by the EU on Russia, including restrictions on key technologies and the country's energy sector," the publication wrote.
The proposed measures include:
the ban on exports of dual-use goods and technologies used for military purposes and capable of enhancing the country's industrial capacity;
sanctions on the purchase of oil, coal, steel products and gold;
trade restrictions on luxury goods, investments and certain services;
measures that would hit the country's aviation and energy sectors, as well as key sources of revenue.
The law would also allow the EU to prosecute anyone who helps circumvent sanctions imposed on Belarusian individuals and entities.
