Russia Increased Military Grouping In Belarus

A new battalion set of BTR-82A vehicles has been transferred.

Another batch of new BTR-82A armored personnel carriers has arrived in Belarus. Apart from the BTR-82A, BTR-80K (BTR-80 commander version, with weapons retention and additional communication and staff equipment), armored ambulance (AMV) and recovery vehicles (BREM-K) based on the BTR-80 have arrived from Russia.

UNIAN reports, citing monitoring groups, that an echelon of 34 vehicles (corresponding to a battalion-size set) was on its way to Brest in the afternoon of January 5. This suggests that the new BTR-82A vehicles will enter service with the 38th Airborne Assault Brigade.

"It is worth noting that one of the battalions of the 38th Airborne Assault Brigade received the BTR-70MB1 (a Belarusian modernisation of the BTR-70) only in 2019. The brigade also uses BTR-80s. The information on the transfer of the equipment was later confirmed by the Belarusian Defense Ministry: the BTR-82A will replace the BTR-80 in the 38th Airborne Assault Brigade," it was reported.

The information was also confirmed by the Belarusian Ministry of Defence.

The ministry published a report specifying the vehicles arrived in Belarus:

BTR-82A;

BTR-80K;

armoured ambulances;

armoured recovery vehicles.
