Foreign trade imbalances continue to increase in the economy. In August, imports of goods into our country further increased their superiority over exports, as follows from Belstat data. Previously, the Ministry of Economy cited among the reasons for such an imbalance in foreign trade that “the domestic market missed certain goods.”
According to Belstat, in January-August the foreign trade turnover of goods in Belarus amounted to $54 billion 122.2 million. At the same time, exports amounted to 25 billion 901.7 million dollars, and imports amounted to 2 billion 318.8 dollars more. In August, the excess increased by another $180.7 million.
Compared to the same period last year, foreign trade turnover increased by 14.8% at current prices: exports increased by 8.4%, and imports by 21.4%.
Officials have been struggling with imports for several years, but they are experiencing difficulties with this. Meanwhile, Belarus is becoming increasingly closer to Russia in foreign trade, writes zerkalo.io.
At the end of September this year, Deputy Minister of Economy Andrei Kartun said that “the market is already sufficiently saturated with imports, the growth rate of imports will decrease, and the balance of foreign trade will level out.” The official also said that the government does not yet see risks due to this imbalance in foreign trade. He also drew attention to one of the reasons for the accelerated increase in imports — the growth of the consumer market. “Here, our domestic market is missing certain goods,” Andrei Kartun noted earlier.
