Egypt Opens Rafah Crossing For Foreigners To Exit Gaza Strip

It became known how many people were evacuated.

On November 1, Egypt opened the Rafah checkpoint on the border with the Gaza Strip.

Shortly before this, several ambulances proceeded from the Egyptian side to Gaza to take seriously wounded people from hospitals to Egypt, the ВВС reported.

It is expected that about 400 foreigners and people with dual citizenship will enter Egypt from Gaza, Al Arabiya reports.

Ambulances also entered the Gaza Strip from Egypt to transport the wounded. According to media reports, they are to take 81 seriously wounded Palestinians for treatment in Egypt, Ahramonline reports.

On the Palestinian side, crowds of people gathered at the border crossing wanting to leave the enclave. However, it is currently unknown how long the crossing will be open and how many people the Egyptian authorities will agree to let through.

Until now, the Egyptian government has categorically refused to allow the evacuation of Gaza residents to the Sinai Peninsula. Earlier today it was reported that an agreement on the temporary opening of the checkpoint was reached through the mediation of Qatar.
