Belarusian Uncovers Tax Inspectorate’s Tricks

The auditors could do anything.

Reader Artur from Mahiliou wrote to the editorial office of the website Charter97.org:

“I read that the sanitary service of our Mahiliou region conducted a raid on fast food establishments. And I discovered that manufacturers of shawarma and pies cook them with numerous violations, which were found in 100% (!) of the objects. Just don’t think that our bakers in eastern Belarus are so careless. Before this, orderlies carried out the same audit in public catering establishments in the Minsk and Hrodna regions — with the same results...

I'll be honest: I am not a supporter of so-called fast food. What my wife cooks at home is significantly tastier and healthier. Buying something in those booths and swallowing it on the run is not for me. If you have a chance to eat out, you need to know where. But still, the announced results prompted me to think.

Working in the field of accounting, I know that all auditors, for example, from the tax office, are trying to find at least some violations. My colleague, the chief accountant, once told me about such miracles. In his small company, inspectors, having found nothing, began to demand: give us at least something so that we can mark it as a violation in the act, otherwise it will be bad!

I see a clear trend here: for the regime, all Belarusians in all areas of activity are violators. And indeed, if punitive riot police or the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime organize a raid, then all 100% of those captured are guilty of something: they either picketed on social media, or read something forbidden on the Internet. If nothing suspicious was found, then at least the arrested person “resisted” the police. Well, if someone is acquitted in court, even in non-political cases, then this happens once in a blue moon, and becomes a reason for sensational publications.

On this occasion, I remember a once popular joke: “There are no healthy people, just those underexamined.” Now it’s time to modify it: “there are no innocent people, just those not arrested (or checked) yet.”

In general, we, Belarusians, in order to restore democracy and the rule of law in the country will have to carry out a thorough audit and sanitary treatment of all government institutions in order to clean them of the spoiled products of Lukashism. Only after this will it be possible to move forward, this can be 100% guaranteed.
