Unit 3 Of Olkiluoto NPP In Finland Shut Down Due To Malfunctions

Specialists are investigating the exact cause of the incident.

The third reactor at Finland's Olkiluoto NPP has been shut down due to a malfunction, local newspaper Iltalehti reported, citing the plant's operator, TVO.

According to the operator, the fault was discovered in the turbine unit. Specialists are investigating the exact cause of the incident. They promised to provide further information when the unit is restarted.

The last time a fault was detected in the third reactor of the Olkiluoto NPP was in October 2022. At that time, the operator reported damage to the internal parts of the pumps in the machine room of Olkiluoto-3. Due to the incident, the unit's tests were postponed.

The plant was built by the US company Westinghouse Electric. The third unit is expected to produce about 30 per cent of Finland's electricity, according to the plant's operator. It will be put into test operation in March 2022 and commissioned in April 2023.
