Woman Planted Self-Made Explosive Device In Center Of Warsaw

Police have detained a 38-year-old woman who planned to carry out a terrorist attack and planted an improvised explosive device in the center of Warsaw on Independence Day, celebrated on November 11. The detainee was interested in the Islamic State and the situation in the Middle East, TVP reports.

The operational actions of employees of the Warsaw 1st District Police Department led to the identification of a woman who, on November 10-11, 2023, at about 2 am, planted an improvised explosive device and set it on fire on one of the streets of the center of Warsaw. The device, filled with gas cylinders, nails and broken glass, could pose a serious threat to the health and lives of many people.

However, no one was seriously injured as a result of the incident. One person was wounded in the leg by shrapnel.

It is reported that after installing the device, the woman reached the Central Station, from where she took a train towards Wroclaw, and then went to her place of residence in the Strzelin commune. After this, the 38-year-old woman was detained at her home.

During the search, it turned out that the detainee was interested in the situation in the Middle East. Police seized items and gadgets associated with the Islamic State, as well as items that could be used to make another explosive device.

The suspect was taken to Warsaw, where she was charged with creating a threat and endangering the life and health of many people and preparing to create such a threat.

The court temporarily arrested the woman for three months. She faces up to 10 years in prison.
