Political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich is held in “very difficult conditions” in the Hlybokaye colony. An unnamed source reported this to Radio Svaboda.

The politician’s relatives received second-hand confirmation that he is still in Hlybokaye colony #13, where he alternates between being in solitary confinement in the cell-type premises and in a punishment cell.

“He was deprived of the right to make calls, deprived of one parcel and meeting per year. He is held in a solitary cell in the cell-type premises, which is regularly alternated with a punishment cell,” a source told reporters.

“280 days of silence have passed. How much more?” the politician’s wife Maryna Adamovich, who is counting the days of her husband’s forced silence, posted on Facebook. She received the last letter from her husband on February 9.

As of November 21, Mikalai Statkevich has not called his relatives for 285 days, no letters have arrived from him, medical packages sent to the political prisoner have been returned. In addition, a lawyer cannot get to the politician.

On May 31, 2020, Mikalai Statkevich was detained on the way to a picket, and in December 2021 he was sentenced to 14 years in a special regime colony.

It is important to note that for his unparalleled courage in resisting the regime, Statkevich spent more than 10 years in prison. The politician was recognized by Amnesty International as a prisoner of conscience three times. Even while in prison, Mikalai Statkevich remains a symbol of fortitude for Belarusians.
