The dictator is inadequate.
Lukashenka tried to play the role of a “peacemaker,” saying that “he doesn’t need a war in Ukraine.” Advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine Mikhaylo Podolyak commented on the statement of the Belarusian dictator for the Zerkalo website:
“He can't do anything. He just needs to be silent more and talk less. What do you mean he doesn't need war? Did we need it? Lukashenka needs to appeal at the following address: Moscow, Kremlin, Putin, in person. And tell him: “Why did you start a war? Why did you enter the territory of a sovereign state in 2014, create bridgeheads for yourself, and start a full-scale war in 2022?”
Why is he telling us this? I understand that it is not entirely adequate from the point of view of assessing cause and effect, but there is no need to constantly say the same thing.
He does not take any position; Lukashenka is an unconditional satellite, a vassal of Russia, and in this case an absolute vassal of Putin specifically. Therefore, if he wants to solve something, put forward some initiatives, then he must do it in Moscow and say: “Get out of the territory of Ukraine.” And then the region will move to a different state. Yes, there will be difficult negotiations. But as soon as Russia withdraws from the territory in full, including from those territories that were captured in 2014, then we can expect that there will be a calmer environment in which certain negotiations can be held.
Everything else is absolutely useless information that has no value, like, in principle, everything that Lukashenka says today. It has no informational, forward-looking or diplomatic value. It does not affect the process, and will not affect it.
