Piontkovsky: Putin Took Very Risky Step

Kremlin head Vladimir Putin has announced that he will take part in the presidential elections in 2024. He changed the concept of the election campaign.

Previously, Putin was offered to focus on Russia’s “achievements” besides the war, but he chose a different strategy, which has certain threats to him. This is Andrei Piontkovsky’s opinion for 24 Channel, he is a Russian publicist and opposition politician from the U.S.

Andrei Piontkovsky noted that the first deputy head of Putin’s administration, Sergei Kiriyenko, suggested that the dictator focuses on the concept of Russia’s “achievement”, that the aggressor country supposedly “overcame all difficulties,” and put the war aside. However, Putin sharply abandoned this idea.

“Putin has dramatically changed this concept. Everyone was surprised that there was no statement about the elections at the exhibition of Russian achievements. He did this in the most military vibes possible. The central task is the integration of new regions of Ukraine [occupied regions - Ed.]. He focused on the war in his election campaign. This is a very risky step,” he said.

Now the mothers and wives of the mobilized soldiers, who are generally considered his main fans, are increasingly opposed to Putin. These Russian women support the killing of Ukrainians but don't want their men to fight anymore. These protests are dangerous for the dictator.
