Polish Sejm Declines Extension Of Prime Minister Morawiecki's Powers

The main candidate for this position is Donald Tusk.

Deputies of the Polish Sejm passed a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, thereby refusing to extend his powers. Now the united opposition led by Donald Tusk will form the government of the country.

During the Sejm meeting on December 11, deputies expressed a vote of no confidence in the current Prime Minister, representative of the Law and Justice party Mateusz Morawiecki, whose candidacy was nominated by Polish President Andrzej Duda. At the vote, 190 people supported Morawiecki’s government, 266 voted against.

Thus, Law and Justice ceased to be the ruling party in Poland after eight years during which its representatives headed the country's government.

Now the formation of the cabinet will be carried out by the united opposition, consisting of the Civil Coalition (KO), Third Way and Left alliances.

The main candidate for the post of Polish Prime Minister was Donald Tusk, the leader of the Civic Platform party, that secured second place in the elections, and the former head of the European Council.
