Democratic Activist Siarhei Matskoits Dies

Siarhei Matskoits, an activist of the Belarusian democratic movement, a regular participant of protests, has died. This was reported by journalist Liubou Luniova.

"Siarhei was an active defender of Kurapaty during the construction of the road. Matskoits was detained so many times that he even himself failed to give the exact number. He served so many arrests in Akrestsina that he apparently knew almost all the cells of this infamous institution," she wrote.

The death occurred on November 3, but it has become known only today.

Siarhei Matskoits was the civil husband of the activist of the European Belarus civil campaign Alena Lazarchyk, who was sentenced to eight years in prison on a trumped-up political case.
