Another Death Sentence Executed In Belarus

A resident of Slutsk was sentenced to death in March 2020.

Human rights activists became aware of the execution of the death sentence against Viktar Skrundzik. He was shot dead on July 16, 2022, according to the Viasna Human Rights Center.

Viktar Skrundzik was sentenced to death in March 2020. He was found guilty of the murder of pensioners aged 79 and 94, as well as the attempted murder of an 85-year-old woman. Other defendants were sentenced to long prison terms: Vital Mutazh — to 22 years, and Valiantsin Bushnin — to 18 years in a penal colony. Another person involved in the case, Siarhei Zakharchanka, was sentenced to a year of corrective labor with payment of 10% of earnings.

In June 2020, the Supreme Court granted Skrundzik's appeal and canceled the verdict. However, in January 2021, the Minsk Regional Court re-sentenced Skrundzik to death. In May 2021, the Supreme Court upheld the decision of the lower instance court.
