Political prisoner Uladzimir Matskevich was transferred from the colony in Shklou to Mahiliou Prison No 4. His friends and fellows do not know for how long he was transferred there.

On February 13 of this year, a trial was held against Uladzimir Matskevich in the Shklou colony “on transfer to a correctional institution of a different type and changing the conditions of the imprisonment regime”. At the same time, relatives and even a lawyer were not allowed to attend the hearing in the political prisoner’s case.

Now there is no contact with Uladzimir Matskevich, his letters are being blocked. Nevertheless, it became known that he was transferred from the Shklou Colony to the Mahiliou Prison No 4. For how long the political prisoner was transferred is still unknown.

Matskevich has been for more than 1.5 years behind bars. He was detained on August 4, 2021, and no investigative actions were carried out for a long time. In February 2022, the political prisoner went on a hunger strike with a demand to change the preventive measure and complete the investigative actions.

In June 2022, the Minsk Regional Court found him guilty of crimes under three criminal articles, including “insulting Lukashenka” (Article 368 of the Criminal Code) and “creating an extremist formation or participating in it” (Article 361-1 of the Criminal Code). Uladzimir Matskevich was sentenced to 5 years in a penal colony.

On October 12, it became known that the political prisoner was transferred to Shklou Colony No 17. His relatives are very worried about his health. It was in the Shklou Colony that political prisoner Vitold Ashurok died.
