Priest From Baranavichy Reports About How He Gave Ride To Enforcer On Bonnet Of His Car
DZMITRY PRYSTUPA

The incident occurred during the 2020 protests.

On August 11th, 2020, Catholic priest Dzmitry Prystupa ran over a law enforcement officer in Baranavichy, ex-press.by writes.

"I knocked him down," says the priest; at that moment he was keeping an eye on the people at the side of the car in the mirror. "He rolled a little over the bonnet, the speed was not high. Then he got up and walked away."

The man was a 42-year-old Chief Warrant Officer from a unit involved in the transportation of prisoners. The priest was serving in Liakhavichy and on that day he drove to the centre of Baranavichy in the car of an acquaintance - he wanted to see what was going on there.

The police officers in black with batons in their hands were detaining the protesters. They tried to stop the car. One of them got in front of it and hit the car.

Dzmitry Prystupa drove away from there. He returned to Liakhavichy and a week later found out he was wanted. "I just packed up and left. I had 15 minutes to pack," the priest recalls.

The priest had a permanent residence permit in Poland, but at the time Polish border guards would not let people in because of coronavirus restrictions. He went through Lithuania. The Lithuanians, after negotiations, allowed him entry only on the condition that he immediately goes to Poland.

A criminal case was filed against Prystupa in Belarus under the article "deliberate violence against an officer of internal affairs". It is known that the law enforcement officer was not seriously injured.
