Сonsequences Of 'Bryansk Raid' And Its Strike On Putin's Image

The leadership in Moscow can no longer guarantee anything.

On March 2, Russian media reported that there were "fights with the Ukrainian hit squad, which penetrated the territory of the region" in the Bryansk region. Later, representatives of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC) claimed responsibility for the operation and revealed the details of the raid. The volunteers released a video to show "that the Russian people can fight for their freedom".

According to unit commander Denis Nikitin, the military leadership of Ukraine was aware of the plans of the RVC. About 45 fighters took part in the operation on the territory of the Bryansk region. Most of them are representatives of the underground resistance, who are actively working within the Russian Federation. Commander Nikitin claims that if the operation had not been coordinated with the Armed Forces, the servicemen would have been eliminated by the Russian security forces. Are the Russians starting to wake up?

According to military expert Roman Svitan, reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the events in the Bryansk region are the beginning of the liberation of Russia from the Putin regime. Colonel Svitan said that he joined drills in this region of the Russian Federation in his youth, so he knows that the pro-Ukrainian Russian citizens are living there. The expert also noted that not all Russians like the policies of the Kremlin and Putin in the Russian Federation, so there have been their own organizations hiding there for years.

Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Ukrainian Defence Intelligence, agrees with this opinion.

“The Russians are starting to wake up, realizing something and taking some specific measures. For those people who took part today in the events against the Putin regime on the territory of the Russian Federation, this is the beginning of the liberation of their own country and the atonement for the crimes of their own state and the Putin regime,” he said.

IDF officer Yigal Levin said that there will be more events like the Bryansk Raid in Russia.

“This phenomenon is not new. In all wars, there have always been those who do not agree with the regime of the enemy. It is known, for example, that there were anti-fascist Germans who fought in some French units of the anti-Hitler coalition. The Germans, patriots of Germany, left for partisan movements, but they were totally disagreeing with the policy of the Third Reich. We see this in other conflicts and wars too. Therefore, this phenomenon is not new. I do not deny the option that in the future there will be more such actions on the territory of Russia,” said the military analyst.

It’s likely that the partisans of the Atesh Military Movement operating in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and part of Russia announced the explosion of the railway in Dzhankoy, likely inspired by the daring raid of the Russian Volunteer Corps.

Boomerang flew towards the Kremlin

Well-known Russian journalist Yulia Latynina believes that such actions hurt the image of the Russian dictator.

“They demonstrate that Putin does not even control his own borders. That ‘miners and tractor drivers’ can come to Bryansk, and no tank traps will keep them,” Mrs Latynina wrote.

“We are looking at a kind of result of the Kremlin's political line of destabilizing all neighbouring countries. Now the boomerang flew towards the Kremlin, which drove all its forces into Ukraine, exposing the ‘internal front’. This may be a signal for elites in regions that have difficult relations with Moscow (Tatarstan or the North Caucasus) to think about their own future and their own interests. The leadership in Moscow can no longer guarantee them anything,” commented the military and political observer of the Information Resistance Group Aleksandr Kovalenko on the events in the Bryansk region.

According to human rights activist and head of the Gulagu.net project Vladimir Osechkin, the RVC fighters spoiled the Kremlin's game. The operation with the "hit squad invasion and hostage-taking" was carefully planned in Moscow, and everything was carried out in the strictest secrecy. Participants were prepared, tasks were scheduled, the territory was cleared. According to the sources familiar with the details, even the bodies of saboteurs and civilian victims were prepared. But the provocation plans were thwarted by the fighters of the Russian Volunteer Corps, who appeared at the scene an hour or an hour and a half before the scheduled beginning. Their coming spoiled the game, provoking the publication of contradictory information because the necessary sources were ready in advance.

According to the Ukrainian journalist, editor-in-chief of the censor.net website Yuri Butusov, Putin can no longer even control Russia.

“Russian propaganda is telling some fables about hostages taken and civilians killed in order to hide this shame. However, the Russian authorities still cannot show a single video from Russian villages. Russian propaganda is calling these Russians terrorists, although they act completely harmlessly compared to real terrorists, the Russian army in Ukraine,” Mr Butusov wrote on Telegram.

Russians vs Russians infighting

The RVC fighters have already announced plans for further military operations on the territory of the Russian Federation. They believe that when the Armed Forces of Ukraine reach the borders with the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian army will not be able to stop them, and they will cross the borders. Then a hybrid war will begin in the Russian Federation, exactly the same as in 2014, when Russia invaded Donbas. Moreover, the RVC, being numerous, also plans to enter the Kursk, Belgorod and other neighbouring regions of the Russian Federation.

The RVC believes that such a forced march will not cause resistance in the international community. Because in response to the question “was Russia attacked?” the answer will be “no, these are Russians, Russians are fighting Russians, this is their right to self-determination”.

Thus, the position of the RVC is to attract into its ranks as many active people in Russia as possible who are dissatisfied with Putin and are ready for military action.
