Zaporizhzhia NPP Completely De-Energized Due To Russian Missile Attack

There may be an accident with radiation consequences for the whole world.

The Russian massive missile attack on Ukraine on the night of March 9 completely disabled the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

At 4:53 (Minsk time), the last communication line between the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP and the Ukrainian power system was disconnected due to the shelling. This is reported by Energoatom.

The plant switched to blackout mode for the sixth time during the occupation. Now the 5th and 6th power units are transferred to the cold position. Eighteen diesel generators are switched on to serve ZNPP needs. There is fuel for their operation for 10 days.

"If it is not possible to resume external power supply to the plant during this time, there may be an accident with radiation consequences for the entire world. In addition, all domestic nuclear power plants in Ukrainian-controlled territory have unloaded their capacity due to the threat of missile attacks. As of 6.30 a.m., all the power units in total deliver 4,700 MW to the power system," the message reads.

Energoatom notes that due to the occupation of the plant and interference of Rosatom representatives in its operation, the Ukrainian side's ability to maintain the ZNPP in a safe mode is significantly limited.
