Lithuanian intelligence reported that the regime in Belarus and Rosatom corporation hid incidents and defects of the reactor systems, which were found in BelNPP Unit 1 and Unit 2 in 2022, reports 15min.lt.

According to the intelligence, some cracks in the welds of the reactor vessel of one of the units were detected at the nuclear power plant in Astravets in May 2022. According to the specialists, the defects could be qualitatively eliminated only after the dismantling of the reactor, but for political reasons such a decision was not even considered.

In addition, it is reported that problems have also been found at Unit 2. For example, the chemical composition of the water in the first circulation circuit that cools the reactor of the power unit had been changed and it was contaminated with tar.

"It was necessary to carry out a mechanical cleaning of the entire pipeline circuit and unload the nuclear fuel. The nuclear fuel assemblies were unloaded from the reactor, cleaned, and those that could not be cleaned were replaced with new ones. It is very likely that the technical defects at the nuclear power plant will be corrected after the launch of the second unit," said the intelligence agency.
