In Bralin, Poland a funeral ceremony was held for a Polish volunteer who died in the war in Ukraine — 45-year-old Michał Żurek.
The Ukrainian delegation took part in the mourning events, including the Consul General of Ukraine in Wroclaw Yuriy Tokar and the Ukrainian military men, Ukrinform reports.
During the farewell ceremony, a Ukrainian flag was laid on the coffin of the deceased, which was then handed over to the relatives of the Hero, and the Ukrainian delegation laid wreaths on his grave from the comrades-in-arms and the Ukrainian people.
The Ukrainian delegation expressed condolences to the mother, wife and children of the Hero.
“They were touched and wished Ukraine to drive the enemy out of their land as soon as possible,” said Yuriy Tokar, Consul General of Ukraine in Wroclaw, in a comment to the agency.
Żurek was a platoon commander in the Foreign Legion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was considered one of the best fighters in this unit. As a result of the assault on enemy positions near Bakhmut, a Polish volunteer received numerous injuries and died on March 25 in a hospital in Dnipro.
The volunteer's wife Agata Żurek, in a commentary to the Polish media, noted that the man joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in April last year.
“He said he would fight for the freedom of Ukraine and the safety of Poland,” she stressed in a comment for PAP,
According to her, in April his contract was ending, and he planned to return to Poland to share the experience gained in Ukraine with the Polish army.
The deceased had four children aged 12-18.
He also had Ukrainian awards for participating in the war against the Russian invaders.
